Shanlan

Shannan district is located on the southern part of Tibet, wiht 3,600 meters above sea level. It covers an area of 90,000 square metres with a population of 240,000, including Tibetan, MenBa, Chinese and Hui and so on. Among them 95% are Tibetans.

Shannan known as "Granery", possesses an unique senery at the roof of the world, with a mild climate, fertile land, abundant resources and spectacular landscape.

Shannan is also the cradle of Tibetan culture, where you can find the palace which host the first Tibetan King in 228BC. This is also the place where the first monastery Samye is located. Shannan enjoys many other "firsts" as well, such as the first agriculture, the first collection of poems, the first Tibetan language creator and the first Drama in Tibet.

People in Shannan are diligent and hardworking. They are not only hospitable but also good at singing and dancing. They created the ancient cilivization in the past. Now they are continuing to creat the modern one with their knowledge. Their typical agriculture, animal husbandry and traditional crafts can be seen everywhere.
